The telephone rang and rang
echoing in the morning air with hints of urgencies. As I reached the hall table. Where the phone rested. I grabbed the telephone receiver that was original for the apartment I first got 32 years ago and said "Hello, can I help you?" A faint yet strong male voice answered with a deep breath saying, "I need a hug." A broad and warm smile came across my face as concern grew in me. This wasn't a statement I rarely heard.
Yet, every time life had brought me another needing soul asking for a hug my life grew and grew.
He asked, "Mrs. B... are you there?"
For a brief moment I flashed on the past. Than I swiftly reprised, "Yes, I'm always here to give a hug." I said with a smile "What's your name?"
Slowly his voice drifted in and out of hearing distance and the flash's came and went. The phone slide slowly and without concern from my fingers. My body felt heavy and being pulled down towards the well worn carpet runner I have gotten as a gift from a kind soul returning their hugs.
I went limp. The last thing I remember was a thud as my body hit first the antique table from my grand mama than down to the floor. Where my tussled hair not yet groomed and styled, hit the Moroccan tile floor. Hit it hard knocking me out and then the hugs began...
